I played this game more to play a fun videogame than to learn Spanish, but I ended up learning a lot about this language. You need to learn and memorize words to go ahead in the game, so that's how I learned it! Very fun and smart way to learn Spanish for people who want to learn it and don't want to get bored by going through the classical language learning courses!

Thank you so much! I am so happy that this game taught you Spanish and you enjoyed it as a gamer!!!!! that was the goal!

This game is a fun way to learn Spanish.  I like it a lot more than classes or apps like Duolingo.

Cool concept and game!! I really enjoyed playing it especially because it has such a nostalgic feel to it. This is perfect for anyone who wants to learn some foundational conversational spanish in a relaxed way that doesn't involve the commitment of taking some crazy courses or doing random exercises in a learning app.

I like the approach of having a game like this for learning a language, kinda surprised it's taken anyone this long to come up with this idea, so keep it up! When is the next level going to be released?

Thank you for the kind words! Makes my day!

I am working on Part II of the game which will focus on the Past Tense. The plan is to release it in the summer:) or even the end of spring.

FAQs:

Please note, this game is only available on Windows.

1. What does Alpha/Early Release mean?

Alpha is a game that is not yet complete and may have some bugs. Please note: the alpha game has been tested by third party testers and although it may have some bugs it is playable (as determined by the testers).

The purpose of the alpha game is to collect user feedback and improve on the game based on that feedback.

2. How many hours is the alpha game?

The game is about 5 hours long. It can be longer or shorter depending on how long it takes you to get through each level. For example, the game has speech recognition, so if you don't make any errors speaking, you might finish quicker.

Also, the advantage of this game is that you can re-play it as much as you want to continue practicing Spanish. You can load it by chapter, so you don't need to repeat everything.

3. What are some known bugs?

a. The game only saves at the start of each scene/level. If you are mid-scene, the game will not save if you exit. One option is to keep the game running. The game can also load per chapter so you can load a desired chapter if prefered.

b. This is not a bug, but if you change your character from male to female or vice versa mid-game, your voice would stay as the original voice, meaning female, if you started as a female or male if you started as a male. This is because male and female games are separate games, and when you choose your character in the beginning, the game determines which to load. In that scenario, I suggest loading it by chapter, which should fix it moving forward.

c.  Sometimes if you exit your character loads to default character. You can always update your character by going to the main menu >> character.

Note: Please share any bugs you find so I can post them for everyone :)

4. What platform is the game on and will it release on anything else?

Currently the game is only on PC.  I plan to release it on a Mac. I have been testing the game on a Mac and ran into some issues building the game. My plan is to work through those bugs and release it on a Mac.

I would also like to make it accessible on smartphones at some point.

5. What are some advantages to purchasing this alpha release?

a. Your feedback can directly improve the game! I am looking forward to hearing what you like and dislike.

b. You will still learn a significant amount of Spanish through this alpha release. But I look forward to hearing from actual users (what they learned and what they didn’t) so I can improve the game. In just 5 hours, you will learn basic Spanish (ordering food, greetings, small talk, grocery shopping, being sick, etc.). But I am looking for your feedback!

c.  The game has been reviewed by a Spanish professor and a professional Spanish translator to ensure accurate Spanish.

6. What type of Spanish will be taught in the game?

Although Spanish varies depending on where you are, the Spanish core doesn’t change. For example, people from the US, Canada, Australia, England, etc, all understand each other. Of course, some phrases are different, but an English speaker understands other English speakers. The same goes for Spanish. You will be able to understand and speak Spanish regardless of the region. The game does show where the character is from, so you can see accents and differences within different Spanish-speaking countries.

7. How can I provide feedback?

I am really looking forward to all feedback.

8. Is this game good for beginners?

Yes! This game is good for any level of Spanish. It is progressive.
